Jammu and Kashmir Reservation- Reorganization Amendment Bill
Also passed by Rajya Sabha: Shah's warning to the opposition - come back, otherwise even as many as you are will not survive.
On the sixth day (December 11) of the winter session of Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha. These included Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2023.
During the debate in Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah warned the opposition opposing the removal of Article 370 to come back, otherwise even as many as you are will not survive. In fact, during the debate on the bill throughout the day, the opposition kept blaming the Supreme Court's decision as wrong.
With the passing of the bill, there will be 43 assembly seats in Jammu instead of 37 and 47 assembly seats in Kashmir instead of 46. Earlier there were 83 seats, which will increase to 90. Ladakh is not included in this yet.
Whereas 24 seats are reserved for PoK. 9 seats are reserved for SC/ST. Besides, 2 seats for Kashmiri Pandits and 1 seat for POK migrants will also be reserved in the Parliament.
Major points of Amit Shah's statement after the debate...
• Those who say that Article 370 is permanent. They are insulting the Constitution and the Constituent Assembly. After the Supreme Court's decision on abrogation of Article 370, the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir has no validity.
• I have already promised that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored at the appropriate time. Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir gave rise to separatism which resulted in promotion of terrorism.
• Have you seen any big crowd at the funeral of terrorists after the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir? Kashmiri people reject those who talk about separatism. We have tried to destroy the ecosystem of terrorist funding.
• We handed over laptops to those who threw stones. We entered his house to take revenge for the terrorist incidents in Uri, Pulwama. Now India has one Constitution, one flag and one Prime Minister.
• The Supreme Court's decision on Jammu and Kashmir is a big defeat for the opposition parties. The decision to remove Section 370 is constitutional. PoK is part of India. No one can snatch even an inch of India's land.
• Those who raised questions have got the answer. The rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir were restricted by three families and these people were enjoying Article 370.
• The court has also accepted that imposing President's rule was not a wrong decision. The Supreme Court rejected the claim of the petitioners
Have given.
• SC held that Article 370 was a temporary provision, there is no doubt about it. If Article 370 was so appropriate and necessary, why would Nehru have used the word temporary before it?
• The merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India was delayed because one person (Nehru) was entrusted with the task. If there was no ceasefire in Kashmir suddenly at the wrong time then PoK would not have happened. PM Modi, I, the Cabinet and BJP will not run away from taking the responsibility of removing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
• There are more Muslims in Bengal and other states than in Jammu and Kashmir, but why is separatism and terrorism more prevalent there?
When Periyar was mentioned, he became angry. During the debate on Dhankhar Bill, there was a heated exchange between the BJP and the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Quoting the controversial statement of EV Ramaswamy Periyar, the father of the Dravidian movement, a DMK MP said that every community has the right to decide its identity.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar got angry on this. He said in a strict tone that anti-national statements are not allowed in the House. During the discussion, DMK MP M Abdullah had commented on the Supreme Court's decision on removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
